Santo Domingo Architecture
The Castle of Columbus and the Cathedral Basilica Santa Maria la Menor would be next on the list in the walled city. The Amber Museum of Calle Arz Merino has a range of exhibits made with amber stone, made famous by the film Jurassic Park. The Plaza de la Cultura is the street of the Dominican culture. You can get a peek in the Dominican life as it was centuries ago in the museums lined up on this street. The Museum of Modern Art has a collection of artifacts on African slaves, Tarino art, Spanish warriors and works of modern day Dominican artists.
The Faro a Colon, a light house constructed in the shape of cross to mark the 500th anniversary of discovery of Americas by Columbus, is an exciting view by the night. The night life has theatrical performances, musical and dance dramas at the National Theatre. You can also shake a wee bit to the Merengue or Salsa tunes in the scores of discos and dance clubs in the city. Café Atlantico, Hernan Cortes, Sir Francis Drake and Columbus Bar are quite famous with the tourists and locals alike for excellent food and ambience.
