If you never been in Punta Cana before, you might find shopping for gifts and souvenirs little overwhelming. First of all you have to know that small shops and vendors live of tourists that come to shop in their stores. Those small shops you will be able to find usually on the beach in between luxury hotels. So just walking down by the beach you will be called and stopped by locals trying to get you into their shop. Feel free to go into heir shop as it is safe but don’t get tricked to buy something that you don’t want. Usually tourist like to buy paintings that are done by local artists. If you ask for the price they will tell you that one painting cost around $100US but you have to bargain and if you are good you will be able to buy it for $30US. Yes believe or not they usually overprice paintings and souvenirs more than 3 or 5 times its real value. So when you shop be smart and don’t get tricked as with $30 spend for one paintings seller will be more than happy but he will tell you that he actually lost money.
