History of Varadero
The history of the town begins in the year 1555 but the officially recorded foundation date of the Varadero city is 5th Dec 1887 when the resort town was inhabited by a dozen families. The town was known as an elitist tourist destination for the rich and famous and an American millionaire Du Pont constructed a private estate with the Xanadu in the 1930s. This was the point of change and many private villas and estates came up in the decades of 40s and 50s. However the revolution in the sixties was the nemesis of many when the locals looted and expropriated the properties.
